Practices
Deerland Dairy is a family owned and operated small grass-fed Jersey dairy farm. Our cows are raised with little to no antibiotics. The only time an antibiotic is used is when a veterinarian deems it necessary for the well-being of the cow. When a cow is treated, her milk is separated from the rest of the herd’s and discarded for a period of time until her milk is tested free of antibiotics. All of our milk is tested to be antibiotic free before it is brought into our processing plant.
Jersey cows produce higher levels of A2. This means they produce a product that is easier to digest for those who have experienced issues when consuming other dairy products. Jersey cows produce the most nutrient dense milk available. Along with producing the highest quality milk, Jerseys are able to so more efficiently than other breeds. Jersey cows use an average of 32% less water and 11% less land to produce the same product as other breeds. As a result, Jersey farms have a 20% smaller carbon footprint than similarly sized farms of other breeds.
Jersey cows are efficient grazers. Our cows spend their days grazing in the pasture, wading through the creek or relaxing in the freestyle barn. Our goal is to keep the cows comfortable and relaxed in any weather condition.
Once the milk enters our plant, our goal is to use the highest quality milk we can produce, along with the highest quality process, to make the highest quality products. We choose to minimally process by only pasteurizing and not homogenizing. Because our products are non-homogenized, they will have a cream layer on top that can easily be mixed in.
These practices make for a product that is great for your health, great for the cows, and great for the environment. We think you can taste the difference.
Enjoy!
